How the Galois and Hilbert contests will work.
Translations are solicited into any language in which
some journal publishes mathematical research or in which a
national mathematical society publishes a regular bulletin. Other
languages are in principle welcome, but we editors may not find
the time and expertise to adequately deal with them as described
below.
Each translation should be submitted to the editors with
mention of the competition. If deemed to have some merit,
a submitted translation will be posted as an annex to the
web page for the contest, along with the date of
receipt and date of posting.
Each translation submitted should include the names and
addresses of its author(s) and other relevant credits.
No author may update his translation more
than twice.
A prize of one copy of the CD-ROM (or exceptionally more)
will be accorded to entries that are judged to be important or of
exceptional merit, taking into account other extant translations.
The editors expect to involve as judges the editors of journals
that publish in the languages in question.
Prizes will be announced progressively on this web page,
and sent asap to the submitting author.
It will be understood that a translation submitted can,
at the discretion of the editors, be published on the CD-ROM.
Notwithstanding, an author will retain copyright for all other
avenues of publication; he may request non-publication of his
translation on the CD-ROM if a request is received by the editors
before the CD-ROM production date.
Entries should be submitted in some format suitable for
immediate www and CD publication. HTML is a best format choice
when adequate.
The contest will be closed at the discretion
of the editors
at any time after December 31th, 1999. Closure will be announced
here on the CD-ROM web page.
